This course provides a comprehensive introduction to two-stroke engine timing diagrams and their role in understanding engine operation. You’ll learn how intake, compression, combustion, exhaust, and scavenging events are coordinated within a single crankshaft revolution to produce continuous power.

The course explains the relationship between crankshaft angle, piston position, and timing events, covering key concepts such as top dead center (TDC), bottom dead center (BDC), port timing, valve timing, and scavenging overlap. You’ll also explore the differences between piston-ported, reed valve, rotary valve, and valve-assisted two-stroke engine designs.

Through detailed explanations and timing diagram analysis, the course demonstrates how exhaust, transfer, and intake events are sequenced to optimize cylinder filling, exhaust gas removal, and engine performance. Ignition timing for both spark-ignition and compression-ignition engines is also examined.

By the end of this course, you’ll understand how to interpret two-stroke engine timing diagrams and how timing influences engine efficiency, power output, emissions, and operating characteristics.
