This course provides a detailed introduction to dye penetrant testing (DPT), a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface-breaking defects in engineering components. You’ll learn the principles behind the technique, including capillary action, and understand why it can identify small defects that may not be visible during a normal visual inspection.

The course explains the main equipment and materials used during an inspection, including cleaning agents, penetrants, developers, and inspection lighting. You’ll also learn the differences between visible dye and fluorescent penetrant systems, as well as water-washable, post-emulsifiable, and solvent-removable penetrants.

By the end of this course, you’ll understand the applications, advantages, and limitations of dye penetrant testing and its importance in assessing the integrity of engineering components.
