This course provides a clear and practical explanation of how bourdon pressure gauges work, from pressure entering the gauge to the movement of the pointer across the calibrated dial. You’ll explore the construction of a traditional bourdon gauge using an interactive 3D model, working animations, and cross-sectional diagrams.

The course explains the function of the bourdon tube, fixed inlet, free tip, linkages, sector gear, pinion, and pointer, showing how pressure-induced deformation is converted into a readable pressure indication. You’ll learn how the oval cross-section of the bourdon tube changes shape as pressure increases, causing the tube to uncurl and move its free tip.

You’ll also learn how the small movement of the bourdon tube is mechanically amplified through the linkage and gearing arrangement, converting linear movement into rotational movement of the gauge pointer.

By the end of this course, you’ll understand the construction, operating principle, and mechanical movement of bourdon pressure gauges and how they provide pressure readings in engineering and industrial systems.
